Calling
France from Australia
Dial 0011 followed by 33 (France's country code), then the regional code:
Paris (01) Ile de France Region
Northwest France (02) Brittany, Normandy, Picardie
Northeast France (03) Champagne, Lorraine, Alsace, Burgundy
Southeast France and Corsica (04) Provence, Rhone, Cote d’Azur, Languedoc
Southwest France (05) Aquitaine, Poitou-Charente, Midi Pyrenees
Mobile numbers (06)
Toll Free (08)
When
dialing a French number from outside France, drop the zero from the region
code.
Important to note that the ringing sound for France sounds
like the engaged signal in Australia so don’t hang up prematurely.
Time Difference
Also remember that Sydney is normally 9 hours and Perth 7 hours ahead of France
meaning that the best time to call to get someone during business hours is
between 5.00pm and 10.00pm Australian time.
Calling Australia from France or other countries
Dial "00" (international access code), followed by the country code
(61 for Australia) then the local number minus the zero on the Australian
area code.
Eg a Sydney number would be 00 61 2 9xxx xxxx
Calling Within France
For calls within France - local or long-distance - simply dial all ten digits
of the French number.
Calling From A Hotel Room
Don’t! They will smash you!
Using Pay Phones in France
You can make both domestic and international phone calls from any telephone
booth (cabine téléphonique) and can receive calls where there's
a blue logo of a ringing bell. Pay phones can be found everywhere (168,000
throughout France) — street corners, Métro and train stations,
post offices and other public places.
Most pay phones require a France
Telecom Phone Card, but some accept credit cards but should be avoided
as it is very costly.
